The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has sought input on how to improve the retail investor journey, or investing for people like you and me, through a Call for Evidence. The goal of this consultation is to remove barriers and better support investors at every stage of their investment choices. From DUFAS, we responded.
We endorse the importance of a simple, accessible and understandable investor journey. In our response, we emphasize that transparency, digitization and financial education should be central elements. In practice, current regulations often lead to complexity and an abundance of information, which deters rather than supports retail investors.
In addition to proportionate regulation, we advocate a broader commitment to financial education, both through public campaigns and through the industry itself. Only with sufficient knowledge can retail investors make informed choices, better assess risks and actually benefit from the opportunities offered by capital markets.
With this contribution, we hope to contribute to a future-proof European framework that promotes retail investing in a responsible manner.
