Welcome to the DUFAS team! From October 1, 2024, Daan Zebel will join our team as manager of regulatory affairs. DUFAS is pleased to welcome Daan as a new team member. His knowledge and experience make him a valuable addition to the team. To get to know him better, we asked Daan a few questions.
What is your (work) background?
I have been working as a lawyer for the past year. In doing so, I mainly focused on banking and finance, more specifically structured finance, and civil (procedural) law in a broad sense. During my studies I did the bachelor Dutch Law with specialization corporate law at Tilburg University, and the master Law & Finance at the University of Amsterdam.
Where does your strength lie? And in what ways do you expect to help the DUFAS team with that?
I am very interested in the interplay between law and finance. Especially securitizations, derivatives, money market instruments and non-bank financial services fascinate me. My experience as a lawyer in the financial sector and my study background have taught me to analyze such issues in a structured way, and from both a legal and financial-economic perspective. I get a lot of energy from presenting and discussing these analyses. I hope to share my enthusiasm for these issues with the DUFAS team and its members in order to contribute to the healthiest possible asset management sector in the Netherlands, and a stable and competitive European financial market.
How do you see the future of finance?
In my opinion, the financial sector plays an essential role in addressing a large number of social and political issues such as energy transition, achieving climate goals and strengthening strategic autonomy. To deal with these issues, it is very important that the European financial sector can continue to compete with other financial markets. The European capital market union plays an important role here and, in my opinion, will need to be strengthened in the coming years in order to effectively address these issues.
