In the last week of February, both the DUFAS Asset Management College Tour took place at the VU Amstedam and the University of Utrecht. They were two successful editions where CEOs were extensively questioned about work in the asset management sector.
Amsterdam
The VU was the stage on Feb. 27, 2024 for the College Tour we organized together with study association Aureus. CEOs Jan Lodewijk Roebroek (BNP Paribas Asset Management) and Steven Evers (Triple Jump), led by moderator Jeroen van Wijngaarden, interacted with the students to introduce them to their backgrounds and experiences in the industry.
Questions v
an the students came up quickly and the CEOs went into great detail on everything. Questions about their personal choices but also about choices made when it comes to investments. Several questions were asked about what background you need to have as a student to work at an asset management organization. Jan Lodewijk and Steven were clear about that. Character and personal baggage are most important. Your studies are a good foundation and the practice is that the diversity in studies as an entry point to asset management is enormous.
Utrecht
In Utrecht, over 80 international students gathered on Feb. 29 in the Auditorium on the University College Utrecht campus. Here the College Tour was the guest of the Utrecht School of Economics. They did not miss the opportunity to talk with CEOs Karin van Baardwijk of Robeco and Martijn Rozemuller of VanEck. Under the leadership of moderator Marlon Jansen it turned out to be an interesting afternoon.
At the beginning of the buckle
stretch, students were invited to ask especially all questions, which was well taken advantage of. Many questions about investment decisions, influences of crypto and AI came along. But also how to deal with investment choices in the arms industry, for example. Karin indicated that she has not yet come across an AI version of herself, but finds it worrisome how fast these developments are going. AI is a growing theme for all companies. The expectation is not that it will completely take over business, but it will become part of, where human decisions will always remain key.
