At DUFAS, we have deliberately expanded our presence in Brussels in recent years, including by establishing a permanent office there. Those who get a seat at the table early on can still influence policy before its details are finalized. These two positions continue that approach.
The appointments come at a time when Brussels is in the midst of significant changes in both areas. The European Commission’s pension package, which includes the revision of IORP II and PEPP, is on the table. At the same time, the SFDR is being revised, and the quality and comparability of sustainability data are high on the agenda.
EFAMA serves as the primary point of contact for European policymakers, such as DG FISMA, on behalf of the asset management sector. Through its coordinating role on the committees, DUFAS can help shape and coordinate the development of positions within EFAMA.
The Pensions Standing Committee focuses on European pension issues, such as the revision of IORP II and PEPP. Given the size and experience of the Dutch pension sector, the Netherlands can make a meaningful contribution in this area.
Marlon: "Due to the aging population, pensions are becoming one of the most urgent and complex challenges facing Europe in the coming decades. The Netherlands has one of the most advanced pension systems in Europe, and other member states can learn from that experience. I want to contribute that knowledge within EFAMA so that European regulations can help increase pension coverage in the EU. "
The Sustainable Data and Reporting Workstream focuses on sustainability reporting and the availability and quality of ESG data—topics that are closely related to the revision of the SFDR.
Ron: "Following the far-reaching changes brought about by the Omnibus I legislative package, the availability and quality of sustainability data remain high on the agenda. This is, of course, due to the revision of the SFDR and the further development of reporting standards such as ESRS and IFRS. But consider also the greater role and potential regulation of ESG data providers. These topics align seamlessly with the sector’s priorities, which I am committed to advancing within EFAMA. ."
We congratulate Marlon and Ron on their appointments and wish them the best of luck.
